Looking for a Quiet Hotel in Miami Beach? Start at the North End

Quick answer

If you want a quiet hotel in Miami Beach, book the north end of the island rather than the south. We're at 7418 Harding Avenue in North Beach, a house of 29 rooms and suites over two floors, built around a courtyard pool that's open sunrise to sunset. No pets, no guests under 12, and someone of the house is awake at any hour. The Atlantic is a short walk east, and Bal Harbour Shops is just north of us. This is the slower Miami.

Quiet in Miami Beach is mostly a question of which end of the island you book. The south end is built for noise and does it well. The north end, where we are, was built for people who live here. We're at 7418 Harding Avenue in North Beach, one block back from Collins, and the difference is audible the moment you're north of 63rd Street.

This is the slower Miami.

What quiet actually means at our place

It means a small house. We have 29 rooms and suites across two floors, a ground level and an upper level reached by stairs. That's the whole property. There's no tower, no conference floor, no lobby bar turning over a few hundred people a night.

It also means a few rules we don't apologise for. We don't take guests under 12 years old, and the limit is enforced at check-in rather than mentioned and forgotten. We don't allow pets, though certified support animals are welcome. We're 100% smoke free inside, with a designated smoking area out front. Those three policies do more for the sound of a courtyard at 9pm than any amount of soft furnishing.

Felix designed each room himself, and every piece in them is custom. The teak underfoot is laid in a yacht deck pattern. Mark Cherry's commissioned pieces are on the walls. We mention this not as decoration but because it's the reason the house reads as one thing rather than a collection of standard rooms with a theme applied.

The courtyard is where the day really begins

Our pool sits in the middle of the house, ringed in teak decking and native palms, with poolside dining from our restaurant. It's open sunrise to sunset. Come down at 8am, before the heat sets in, and you'll usually have the water to yourself.

Wrapped around it is the Courtyard Garden, a pocket of native green that hides us from the street. It's the part of the property guests tend to describe when they come back. Not the view, not the lobby. The quiet corners under the palms.

The beach, and what's around us

The Atlantic is a short walk east of our gate, and we keep sunbeds and umbrellas waiting on the quieter sand. That sand is the argument for North Beach in one line: same ocean as South Beach, a fraction of the people on it.

Bal Harbour Shops is just north of us, an open-air shopping centre where the designer flagships sit under fig trees rather than inside a mall. If you want it, it's there, and you can be back in the courtyard before lunch. West of Collins on 71st Street you'll find the Normandy Fountain district, a walkable spur of small restaurants around a fountain plaza, including Silverlake Bistro at 1211 71st Street and the Italian kitchen Capri New Style, which sits across from the fountain itself. These are neighbourhood places, not reservations you make a month out.

North Beach still has its soul.

Who this suits, and who it doesn't

It suits couples, solo travellers, and people who want their evening to end on a lounger rather than in a queue. It suits anyone who has done South Beach once and found the trade not worth it. It suits guests who like knowing that someone of the house is awake at any hour, which ours is, every hour, for keys and luggage and quiet fixes.

It does not suit families with young children, because of the age minimum. It does not suit anyone who wants to walk out of the lobby into the nightlife. We're a drive from that, deliberately.

Practical notes before you book

Check-in is after 4:00pm and check-out is 11:00am. If you're arriving early, tell us in advance and we'll do what we can with what's free that morning.

Rates are quoted in U.S. dollars and are subject to 14% tax and a resort fee of $50, both added to the nightly rate. We're a cash-free house: all major credit cards, no cheques, no cash at check-out. Bring a valid government-issued ID for check-in, which we scan for our records.

We're about a 30-minute drive from Miami International Airport. For parking, contact our reservations team, who can tell you the current options and rates near the hotel.

Quiet luxury you feel rather than see. That's the whole proposition, and it's easier to deliver at this end of the island.

Common questions

What are the pool hours?

The courtyard pool is open sunrise to sunset. Mornings are the quietest stretch, before the sun gets over the palms.

Is this an adults-only hotel?

Close to it. We have a minimum age of 12 years, enforced at check-in, so reservations for guests under 12 can't be honoured on arrival. Pets stay at home, though certified support animals are welcome.

How far is the hotel from Miami International Airport?

About a 30-minute drive. We're at 7418 Harding Avenue in Miami Beach, and we recommend booking a trusted car service or ride share rather than waiting on a shuttle.

Is there parking at the hotel?

Contact our Reservations Department for current parking options and rates near the hotel. They'll give you what's accurate for your dates rather than a number that changes with the season.

Is there someone at the desk overnight?

Yes. Our staff stays on the property 24 hours a day, and only authorised people have access to the hotel. Keys, luggage and directions at any hour.

What taxes and fees are added to the room rate?

Rates are in U.S. dollars and carry 14% tax plus a $50 resort fee, both applied on top of the nightly rate. We're cash-free, so payment is by major credit or debit card.
